KAMA TSUGI- Tailoring Project Inspired by Carpentry.
Transforming 3D- 2D. Using Japanese joinery it brings a new way of connecting fabric together. Techniques such as 'Kama Tsugi' Goose Neck joint are devised to resist tension force and reinforce the area. The joints also create movement and added strength using techniques such as cutting the spline on the grain. The fabrics are slotted together in the way carpenters would ensemble a joint. With these aspects together this collection is a fusion of strength and simplicity connected with hidden and decorative joints holding the panels together.
